  Collondon
dedication unknown

Intriguing. The former convent chapel on the road to Clairvaux.

Heraldic glass above the entrance. A crude device and 1653. Main entrance to the community.

I'd cycled up this fast road half a dozen times before I spotted this building, submerged in trees and hard against the road. I only noticed it because I caught sight of the bell turret out of the corner of my eye. I nearly fell off my bike as I staggered to a halt. As at Chevrotaine, it is obviously the chapel of a community, perhaps still in use for this purpose; the building behind still has the air of a convent.

The doorway onto the road has a crude heraldic device above it, dated 1653. Higher is a pretty little round window with the glass of a shield in it. A very simple, single cell building, with a locked door; but I assume that this doorway is no longer in use anyway, as it opens straight on to the Doucier to Pont de Poitte road. Access is now probably from within the garden of the building behind.

A bit further along the wall is a gatehouse, with a larger doorway with a corbel table above, the whole structure covered in ivy. This was probably the original main entrance to the community buildings.

Collondon chapel is along the D27 road between Doucier and Pont de Poitte, just to the north of Charcier. The access is probably from within the garden.
