St Michael, Myland, Colchester
(old church)

Old Mile End Church (from the north-east)

Myland (Mile End) was once a hamlet a mile from Colchester Castle. It became Colchester's 19th Century northern railway suburb, and in the 1850s the medieval parish church was abandoned and the new church built by Edward Hakewill half a mile further north in the heart of the new housing. The old church was demolished, but its remains survive in Rectory Close, not far from the railway station.
