The ordnance survey map shows you how close we are to Chelmsford, but as so often in Essex a sleight of hand by the planning authorities means that the 21st Century appears not to come too close.

The chapel was built for a dissenting community in 1707, although in fact thay had been meeting for almost a century in each others houses, and had taken over the medieval parish church during the Commonwealth.

There were later additions and extensions, and the chapel is now part of the United Reformed Church. Little Baddow local history centre is attached. The headstones in the graveyard are a reminder that the Congregationalists were often people of business and property, given to as grand statements in death as their Anglican neighbours. One inscription tells us that its occupant 'suddenly expired during divine service in the adjoining chapel'.
