A dying church. I came here on the Essex Ride and Stride day, but the church was locked and not taking part. This famous and monumental church of the 1920s by Temple Moore sits directly opposite one of Essex's biggest police stations. There could be no excuse for it not to be open, not to be taking part, not to be welcoming to pilgrims and strangers, not to be accessible on this one day a year to ordinary folk curious for a sense of the numinous, God knows. Shameful.
